What is Love?

I've always said that love is, in short, "The willingness to give one's own life for something or someone." And conversely I've said that, "Hatred is the willingness to end one's life or existence even if it costs you your own."

Thats short and to the point, IMO. It guess this thread makes reference to the difference between love in the romantic sense and love in the general sense that can occur in platonic friendships, for a building/history/place, or an entity like God or bacon. So with that distinction both of the songs above only refer to sex and NOT love. I think romantic love is a lot stronger than the platonic love but its also different in a way that is hard to grasp. Like, romantic love can wax and wane and sometimes be ended outright but platonic love rarely does that. It's almost unbreakable... or maybe thats just MY experience?

On a related note, I am always annoyed by how often and haphazardly young people (girls) use the word love in every day conversation. I love this, I love that, I love the jonas Brothers, I love Ke$ha, I love pancakes. Maybe they really WOULD give their lives for the greater good of Pancakes but I doubt it and so I no longer trust them.
