I got a job today. Working in a factory making something or other. Shitty part is that it is about 45-55mins from home and I start at 6:45AM hahaha Oh well it is work for the time being, I just need some constant money that I can count on instead of this going into Labour Ready and one day work, another half day another no work.

It will last as long as I can take it I would say, And while it is happening hopefully I will be able to save up some dough. I was looking through our local College (Fanshawe) course guide book while I was at the staffing agency today and saw some courses that intrigued me that could actually lead right into a job so that was actually a little exciting. Still considering getting my truckers licence too cause I enjoy just driving, being on my own, listening to some music, running people off the road...you know the real joys of life.

Thanks buddy... Uh there were a few in the slight medical field that interested me. One was the Pharacist course and the other was a breathing specialist dealing with oxygen and stuff, the breathing one basically said they have a 100% placement rate with that one and that intrigued me more than anything hahaha.

Just cool that I was able to look through the book and find courses that I had interest in.

Congrats N8R!

My latest rejection has led me on the prowl for opossumary lifeforms tonight. Sorry Ms. Piggy, but the world must rid itself of these poltergeists, and I am going to help it.

Thanks everyone. I will let you know how day 1 goes.

I am really looking forward to sleeping in tomorrow cause I wont sleep in Saturday due to staying at families place, so not my own comfy bed. Then Sunday I can't really sleep in because I have to be in bed by like 9PM so I can get up at 5:30AMish for work, probably earlier. I friggin love sleep, it is a big weakness of mine because I require so much but usually get so little.

Best of luck to you man!

What was the title of the "Breathing Specialist"? We have Respiratory Therapists but they have a degree and its pretty complicated. I wonder what all that job entailed...

Yeah I don't really know what would be required for the full course, full training but it just promised a 100% placement so that interested me.

Jobs - Page 3 Empty Re: Jobs

Post by N8R Mon Aug 02, 2010 5:49 pm

So just got back from day one of the new job. It was alright. The commute is the worst part cause it is basically an hour each way...that is 10 hours per week lost to just getting to and from this job. Uncool.

The job itself was easy today, just picking up parts off the conveyor belt and stacking them just to the side. Very mindless, not much thought needed for this one, also very loud so I have ear plugs in that cut a HUGE portion of the noise so I can't hear anyone really talking, and it is too loud to talk with the one other guy I work with. I know this is temporary so I can do it for the time being. If this place was located in London and I got the job myself and not through a staffing agency I would probably stay longer cause I would be getting paid more money, I would assume the lowest they would pay is $14/hour, and somewhat enjoy jobs that I dont have to think very much. Just the stupid drive. Will keep you posted.

The drive sounds like the one I made for my internship. I didn't live in Ft. Wayne at the time. I lived with my godparents about 45 minutes North. It sucked so bad. I had to get up super early and then after work when I just wanted to go home and relax I had to drive about an hour before I could. Not to mention all the money I spent on gas!!

Hope it works out for you.

Yeah that is my same feeling. I get up at 5:00AM to start work at 6:45AM. For any other job I have had I wake up a max 1 hour before hand, in Aussie it was 5 minutes before I had to be there.

As soon as today's work was done I just want to be sitting in my comfy chair in the basement but no dice, had the hour drive back and stopped at the grocery store for some fud. I will still be looking for full-time work in London while working at this position.

So Day 3 is now done. Yesterday was actually alright, just pulling pieces from the conveyor belt and putting them into a bin. It was a long wait between piece coming off the line. The robots were hypnotizing...it was kinda cool. Also I bent down and ripped the crotch in my pants, I laughed.

Today I went into work and they told me to go to one of their other plant down the road because the press I was going to operate at Plant 3 is staying in Plant 2 (new plant today) so I started today by grinding pieces of metal for 8 hours. Pretty boring. Not sure when I will actually operate a press but for now I am a little bored at work, muscles sore, tired and the lot. Also I am very broke at the moment, actually living in the 100% negatives until next friday...let's hope I can make it.

Day 4 over with. Did some welding today, really easy, didn't mind it, too no real thought just go with the flow. Then did some sitting around while a machine was fucking up and I worked an extra 2 hours today and with those two hours I was assembling small parts for re-packing, pretty boring but I was actually able to talk with a co-worker for the first time because we could actually hear each other, My thumb hurts though from the small parts. the 10 hours actually went by quickly...now that they are over. I just hope I don't have to work on Saturday cause that would suck and Saturday is my only day to sleep in cause Sundays I have to be tired so I can sleep early. I need to find a job in London.

Soo....full-time position opened up in the Australian section of my zoo. It's working with the birds, which I'm currently working with the most in my area as a part-time keeper. I don't mind it, but I'd rather work with primates.

I've applied for a position in Indianapolis working with Orangutans, but no one that has applied has heard from them. Might call them tomorrow and figure out what the hell is going on.

I heard the boss in Australia can be kind of a bitch, but then again my current one can be too.

I really like my area though. The co-workers are great and I fit in great. I also like that some days I still get to work with the orangutans and primates.

However, full-time position means that I could seriously stay here in Ft. Wayne. More money, benefits, close to family (no moving across the country for a full-time job) which means...more money for bigger apartment and traveling...

I don't know. I'm right on the line. I know I should apply, but I just really like my area right now. I want to be happy...not just have a full-time job just to have a full-time job, but who knows what Australia will be like.

Should I take the leap and apply or just sit content and be happy and hope a better job comes up? I'd really appreciate your thoughts!

Apply because you can always turn down the offer if it comes through and then you still have both options open, you never know until you try right!!!

Day 5: Today I worked on one welding machine doing one part over and over. Got about 850+ done which is pretty good. Was able to just work and be left alone for the most part. Had a co-worker that I was able to ask questions of, get help from and rely on when the machine was on the fritz the few few hours. The job itself is not that bad, the commute and shit pay are the worst things and those are both LARGE things. At least it is the weekend and I can sleep in tomorrow. GOOOOOO ME!!!!!!

Good luck Newms. It sounds like the standard factory jobs here... little pay and repetitive work. Hope it works out.

Ms. Piggy thats quite a conundrum. I think you should go for the job if it will make you happier. Let me clarify... I don't mean if you like the job itself better. If by getting more money you can travel to far off distant places like Canada or Muncie then that'd be a good thing. And it could mean that your man friend PN could work less and chill with us cool kids on the internet.

Tough call.

I just started a VERY boring job but one that pays well (personal protection/security)

I want to work in film, so I am working on getting a job as a agent, just have not had anyone bite from any of my resumes I have sent out yet.

I also am filming a movie/ got to be in a movie recently (was a supporting actor, a greek student hazed in his boxers, forced to be beaten, eat raw pig feet, drink lots of liquor (iced tea) and got beat with a paddle). I may post pictures or video once the movie comes out

I also am trying to open up a atheltic apparel line, and finally have the resources to start this up the right way. Now I just need a little more free time (which I should have after this movie wraps)

Wow VA that is a lot of stuff going on in your life. What movie were you in if you don't mind me asking and I think it would be awesome to see some pics. I had wanted to be in film, behind the scene, when I was a bit younger, even did a Diploma program in Digital television and Film Production but couldn't get any work in the field even though I applied for years, just had to move on. I wish you much better luck.
