What is the last book you read? Who was it written by? Would you recommend it?
Re: What is the last book you read?

Doesn't surprise me.
I dont even know the name of the last book I actually read cover to cover.

I'm typically reading a book a day - but they're not the type that I'd go running around recommending to everyone.
I am almost finished reading a collection of the best short stories by Black authors - put together by Langston Hughes. Some really good pieces of writing so far...stuff that literally has given me chills once I finish reading the last sentence.

I just finished the Hunger Games.
It's young adult literature, but a good read. Nash hates to admit it, but he liked them too.

I'm reading "Wicked". Its a hard read but interesting. I don't know if I'd recommend it or not since I'm not finished with it but its good so far as long as you can get over the made up words, places, and things.

I actually saw the musical before I read the book and it made the book boring and uninteresting to me....like it started off okay, but then it got boring.
Not my favorite, but that's just me.

Re: What is the last book you read?
I can't picture how they could make the book a musical... it baffles me.
I have no interest in seeing a musical as I'm only reading the book because my lady friend read it.

The musical is great Catchy songs and good sets/story.
Not sure which came first; the book or the musical, but they are totally different.

Jamie was in Show Choir in High School so a bunch of high schools performed music from the Broadway musicals at local invitationals.
I didn't mind watching Jamie and her friends perform but I couldn't handle it again and again!

I'll soon be reading Unexpectedly, Milo by Matthew Dicks, I preordered it when the release date was announced so that should be good. He wrote Something Missing which I really enjoyed so I'm looking forward to it.
Also the third Hunger Games book should be coming in the mail soon. I'm also thinking about reading the Millennium trilogy (The Girl with/who...) but I don't know.

It looks like he's a relatively new author - that's cool! You went against the age-old adage to never judge a book by its cover - but it worked!

Re: What is the last book you read?
I didn't judge it, it just caught my eye. I read the first chapter and then checked it out.
It was his first book. This is second and he's finished writing his third, but it's still going through editing and things. He's on twitter!

Reading the abridged Rising up and Rising down. I really like it, but my gf (in cleveland) has the unabridged version (which I think is actually somewhere in kentucky?). Grrrr.

Nice! I have Vollmann's "Riding Toward Everywhere" on my shelf and have not read it yet. (I went to a huge box sale event at a book warehouse a few months ago - they gave you a box for $25 and let you go nuts amidst millions of brand new books - -I escaped with I think 42 new books - I'll get to it soon!)

Nice! That sounds amazing.
I have RTE. I read about half of it a long time ago and gave up. It did not seem like one of his better books. I'll return to it soon, but I'm not in a hurry. . . .

Re: What is the last book you read?
The sale is great!!! It's an old factory/warehouse, so the place is absolutely huge and filled with just boxes and boxes of books. They do their best to line them all up on some tables, but there are just too many books, so you're often just rummaging through boxes. The problem is that there is no way to navigate - they are not categorized - so I spent about 8 hours that day sifting through everything. And the place is a zoo, as you can imagine - since the sale only lasts for a couple days (I got there 7am on opening day and it was lined up out the door) - but SO worth it!sig wrote:Nice! Like I said earlier, I'm reading Unexpectedly, Milo. It's really good. Funny and interesting. A little more than halfway done, excited to read the rest.
I got Andrea to start Something Missing as well, you all should read it to and we can have a Madison Square book club.
OOOOOO, that's a good idea for In Full Pursuit!
