So how many hours of sleep do people typically get?

I constantly battle with this. I can survive nicely on 6 hours/night - and I just hate the feeling of "wasting" valuable time by sleeping. On the other hand, there are health benefits (or, so I'm told) to sleeping at least 8 hours/night. So I go through the occasional phase where I try to get my eight hours. There was a time when I required 10 hours of sleep/night - but I realized that my body can adjust really well to less sleep (so long as I have coffee each morning).

Normally, 6-7. My normal schedule is asleep at midnight, up at seven.

I don't know if you need to get eight. I've always heard you need to be in the 7-8 range. Though for me, if I err one way it works better if I'm in 6-7, because I get pretty sluggish when I get close to eight full hours.

Right now I'm sleeping a ton, but that's because I have a gaping surgical wound that's still healing.

I normally get around 5 or 6 hours of sleep, like 3 to 9. I'm a night owl and have a hard time falling asleep. I do occasionally sleep way longer till like noon or so to make up for it.

Well, on days I'm not at work I get 7-8 hours but its a trick question for me as I work 3 days a week and my hours vary like crazy.

Most days at work I get about 2-3 hours of sleep and then catnap when I can throughout the next day... SO... I guess my "average" is...5.65ish

It depends. Right now, not working, I get quite a bit. When I am working, I usually get 5-6 maybe. To get any sleep at all I must take Tylenol PM and Ambien, every single night. Boo. Hiss.

I take sleep aids, when I'm at home, so I can go to bed at a decent hour and wake up at a decent hour... otherwise I would revert to High School me who went to bed at 5:00 AM and slept until 8:00 at night.

When I'm in the middle of a depressive fit I can seriously sleep for days, minus the time needed to eat and go potty.

There's a point where sleep almost hurts, you've slept so much.

during weekdays i get about 6 to 7...on weekends, thanks to partying/whatnot it goes down to about 5 hours...

During work I am in bed with just over 8 hours of time in bed and about 7-8 hours of sleep coming from it. I can survive on less but I dont function as well so I have always tried to get about 8 hours anytime. During the weekend I try to sleep in on Saturdays until about 11:00AM or so so it depends on when I go to bread and Sundays I sleep until about 9:00AM so again depends on when I go to bread.

Honestly if I could I would sleep for 10 hours/day. I can sleep and sleep for hours and hours if I am in my own bed at home hearing the same noises and being in that comfort zone.

I usually go to bed around 10:30-11 and get up around 5:45 on days when I work.

On my weekend I like to stay up as late as I can, so I can spend more time with Nash, but I can't stay up past 1am as much as I try to. I like to sleep in as late as I can, but my body is so used to getting up early that I wake up around 7am and then kind of doze for an hour, wake up, doze. Then after 10 I just give up and get up.

I'm like sig though. When I was in my most depressed times I could sleep for more than 12 hours sometimes and still feel like I could sleep for 12 more. The same thing happens around the first week of every month too...be glad you all are guys!

Speaking of sleep...I'm off to go get some now!

Excessive sleep can lead to muscle atrophy I believe. Which can actually cause quite a bit of pain.

I sleep too damn much, but I'm battling 34 years of type 1 diabetes, and 4 years of debilitating sciatic nerve pain in my hip.

I've honestly slept away more hours, and years of my life than I'd care to realize myself, and I'd like to find a way to break out of that somehow. I'm one of those people that if I've slept for 4 hours and get woke up by something, it's like it erased my sleep up until that point, and my body needs another 8 hours.

I wish I could get by on 4-6 hours of sleep like I used to when I was younger....maybe someday.
