Candy Talk Empty Candy Talk

Post by balloon Fri Jul 23, 2010 11:37 pm

I love me some candy. I'm always on the hunt for some new wild type that will keep me occupied while I'm working at the computer.

What are your favourite flavours (look at all the u's!) of candy? Least favourite?

I'm a big fan of the reds (strawberry, cherry, etc.) and blacks (licorice - sometimes it's actually a dark purple and you're left sayin' JACKPOT! for the delicious grape). Red is my favourite though - I like to dabble in orange from time to time. I very much dislike yellow...any lemon taste.

My favourite types of candy are wine gums and ju jubes. Sometimes I like the sour stuff like your standard sour key - but if I eat too much, I have a sore tongue the next day.

Currently, I've got a box of Jujyfruits and Gobstoppers open (2 for 1 deal!), but my all-time favorite? I don't know, that's a tough one. I eat way too much, for sure.

Same here, LG! It really can't be good for me.

So Jujyfruit is real? We don't have that up here...I always figured it was a made-up term based solely from the Seinfeld episode. Go figure.

Wine gums. How can you not say wine gums are your favourite? I mean, they're chewy...they're flavourful...but oh so chewy!!!!!

Probably should have Googled "wine gums" first. They are exactly like Jujyfruits.

Jujubes are too small. Get stuck in your Strahan-like teeth gaps.

Ohhhhh - I see how it is. Just because the British invented them wine gums, you'ze guys figure you have to come up with your "own wine gum". I get it, I get it.

Favourite colour?

On the count of three:

One...two...three...RED.

I share your disgust of all things yellow.

The question is always: What to do with the yellows? Do you eat them first and just take 'em like they're medicine? Do you save them for last and then eat as many as you can take before you want to barf? Do you just segregate all your colours from the get-go, and make your way around each grouping for a bit?

I usually eat them first, but this is where that strategy screws you: other people. When you start eating candy, you always make sure you're alone because 1) you're a 24 year old eating jujyfruits and 2) you don't necessarily want to share. At some point, however, a person will walk in on you, and then it's only socially responsible to offer them some. But at this point, having suffered through all the lemons and bananas and limes, you have only reds to give up. Oh the humanity!

I'm actually laughing hysterically right now. I know exactly what you're saying all-too-well. I've been burned before, LG! Burned I tell ya! My father does this to me all the time (he loves the reds the most) - and I tend to save them for last, ON TOP of eating all the yellows first.

So yeah, I make a point to eat my candy in isolation. I've been doing the flat-out grab bag strategy lately. Just stick your hand in there and eat whatever ya damn well get. It's an old-school philosophy that brings you back to your roots...when you were just a kid and didn't know any better. It's been working for me reasonably well, but I have ended up a couple times with about 85% yellows towards the end. It's fine during the go of things, when you're thinking "Man! I lucked out with this bag - hardly any yellows!!!" - but then at the end of it all, it's one after the next. That's a shitty feeling.

When you buy your candy in bulk, do you make a consorted effort to avoid yellows? I do.

I probably should buy in bulk, but I often do not.

You must like the original Swedish Fish then?

Speaking of Swedish Fish makes me wonder - will belli make the jump? And yes, I know he's Turkish, but the -ish is the same!

Belli has no idea what happened. He's w/o internet till August.

I don't really have a favorite candy, I'll eat what is in front of me, but I don't really care one way or the other. I tend to like things with peanut butter, reese's, pb twix, etc. but not so much so that I won't eat other things.

Swedish fish are good!!! So are Sweedish berries.

(and Sweedish women = Twisted Evil )

Ummmm...but yeah. Sometimes when I buy local strawberries I wonder how they aren't candy.

LG - are your gobstoppers chewy or everlasting?

Love me some candy. If it's chocolate based (kit kat, reeses, baby ruth, snickers, etc.) I like to keep them in the fridge. Makes them much more delicious.

Favorite candy for me is probably Sour Patch Kids.

Yeah!!! I always keep the chocolate in the fridge. Makes it last longer - the coolness is awesome...liquid explosions in my mouth.

Sour candy is only good in small doses. When you go to the variety store and get an assortment of 5 cent candies - and you've got your regular gummy-type candy mixed with sour-type...then it's fun. Because the sour ones are a special treat! Otherwise, one sour after the next becomes cruel & unusual punishment for the tongue. Waking up that next morning is worse than waking up with a hangover.

Favorite all-time candy has to be Tootsie Rolls tied with Sour Patch Kids. I don't know which I like more.

I love sour anything: Skittles, Sour punch straws, Sour Patch kids
Then after I eat all that sour stuff I need chocolate. My favorite chocolate candy: Tootsie rolls, Reisens, and plain M&Ms

Damnit! Now I'm craving candy. You guys are the devil.
